Scotty McCreery – Providing a Positive Impact

Scotty McCreery was back in Newtown yesterday to meet with 12.14 leaders, participate in 2014 planning activities for the Foundation and speak with local media groups. This was Scotty's second visit to Newtown in two months (he previously visited in December), ane he spoke extensively about his motivation for joining the Foundation and his goals as goodwill ambassador.

"Newtown is a great town with great people," said Scotty. "Although a terrible tragedy happened here, it does not define the people who live in this area."

“When we were approached about becoming a goodwill ambassador for 12.14 Foundation, I saw the passion they had, and it fit in with what we believe,” Scotty continued. “Having a number one record is nice, but the main thing for me is impacting people’s lives in a positive way through music and the performing arts, and that’s what the 12.14 Foundation is doing. Being an ambassador for the Foundation is something I want to carry around everywhere I go.”

About helping to build awareness for Newtown and 12.14 Foundation, Scotty explained, "Everybody was touched by this. Everybody heard the news. People couldn't believe what they were hearing and wanted to help in any way they could. So when they hear what we're doing, and that we're serious about this, they'll want to help, too, and be a part of it."

The 12.14 Foundation was formed to heal through the arts, to create a nurturing educational environment, to provide life-long tools for success, and to communicate love, restoration and confidence. We aim to accomplish these goals within the context of a great architectural achievement. Our first year, as anticipated, mainly addressed the fundamentals – corporate and legal, technology infrastructure, and board/advisory team development. Additionally, we produced our highly successful inaugural event, Seussical the Musical, which affirmed our vision and garnered national media attention.

With the fundamentals in place, we will focus our energies in 2014 on building awareness, fundraising, and formalizing our long-term plans for the Newtown Performing Arts Center. We will also continue to produce professional-quality events along the way, enriching the lives of children in Newtown and beyond.

To those ends, I am delighted to announce that Scotty McCreery, platinum-selling country music performer and American Idol 10 winner, has been selected to be the Foundation’s first Goodwill Ambassador. Scotty visited Newtown this past December and has embraced his role as a 12.14 ambassador. More than an entertainer, Scotty is a young man of remarkable character who will represent us admirably. IBM Gives Recognition to the 1214 Foundation

IBM gives recognition to the 1214 Foundation. The Foundation will be listed on the 2013 IBM Employee Charitable Contribution Campaign which begins in August with IBM retirees and executives and in October for employees. We also plan to work with IBM periodically with various consulting services during the later phases of the Performing Arts Centre project.

1214 Officially Announces Formation, Charter and Leadership

Although many of you have been following 1214 for the past few months, today we distributed our first official press release. As part of this announcement, PR Newswire (one of the world’s premier wire services) has donated space on the Reuters electronic sign in Times Square to run a 1214 Foundation infographic. Comprised of 11 electronic screens, the Reuters sign rises 23 stories from the ground, occupies over 7,400sf and occupies the entire southwest corner of Times Square. The 1214 infographic will display in rotation with several other organizations’ graphics over a period of three days. We are grateful to PR Newswire for donating this premium display space in support of our awareness building efforts. Stay tuned for additional 1214 news releases over the coming weeks and months.

1214 Foundation makes international connections

Richard Pilbrow, a 1214 Foundation board member, is currently traveling Europe meeting prominent theater organizations to discuss the Foundation's efforts. He has networked with The Unicorn Theatre in London. The Unicorn is Britain's premier theatre for young people in a custom-designed twin-auditorium complex on London's South Bank. We are also connecting with the theatre company, Unga Klara, located in Sweden. Their leadership is described as one of the world's leaders in theatre for young people. They have pioneered plays that speak truthfully about life's complexity, tackling serious topics in a playful form, and has combined the heavy with the light, has explored, examined, and developed ideas with new audiences. We are dedicated to involving the world's best and applaud Mr. Pilbrow's exceptional efforts toward the project.
