We are having a SPELLING BEE!
WITH MEMBERS OF THE NEWTOWN COMMUNITY!!!

SPECIAL GUEST HOSTS: TWO OF THE CREATORS OF THE TONY AWARD-WINNING HIT BROADWAY MUSICAL, "THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE":

WHAT IS IT?

It’s a real spelling bee – but with spellers of all ages.

Imagine a Walk-A-Thon… where people sponsor other people – but, in this case, it’s for spelling.

AND… CHEATING IS ALLOWED! More on that later.

We are looking for 10-12 teams of 10 people each – although only one person on each team is the speller.

That’s the team leader.
-
The other members of the team lend support, cheer and help spell words.

Sponsors donate to support their chosen team

DONATIONS ARE 100% Tax Deductible.

Once we reach 12 teams, we will stop adding teams but will continue the fun-d raising, of course.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN CHEATING IS ALLOWED?!
-
The more money you raise ahead of time through your team members and sponsors, the more CHEATS you can buy and the longer you can stay in the game.

At the beginning of the Bee, teams “buy” CHEATS with the money they have raised.

CHEATS include things like:

Ask your team

Ask the audience
-
Phone a friend
-
Buy a letter
-
Buy a different word
-
Get back in the game after you've been kicked out!

Roll the big fuzzy dice to try your luck.

HOW DO I CREATE A TEAM?
-
If you want to be a TEAM LEADER (AND SPELLER), CLICK HERE to set up your team.

Click on "Register Now" button at the bottom in orange.

Select "Start A Team" and you're on your way!

Pick a clever name and add it after your last name with a dash – for instance, in the LAST NAME FIELD: "LastName – My Clever Team Name"

After you set up your team, the website will help you send emails out to pontential sponsors and other team members.

Anyone can put together a team. You simply contact some friends/colleagues and ask if they want to be part of something supremely silly and for a very good cause.

IF I’M THE TEAM LEADER AND I AM THE ONLY SPELLER, WHY DO I NEED A TEAM?

First of all, it’s more fun.

Second of all, they can help raise money which will help you BUY MORE CHEATS. They can also help get free tickets to our shows.

Some of the cheats involve team members, they can help you SPELL CORRECTLY and STAY IN THE GAME LONGER!

The WINNER will take home a HUGE TROPHY!

HOW DO I JOIN SOMEONE ELSE'S TEAM OR SPONSOR A TEAM?

In most cases, you will receive an email that will take you directly to that team's page.

In the blank field next to "Participant Name:" enter any portion of the team name or individual's name.

ONLY ONE person on the team can be the speller – but everyone else can help with the CHEATS.

We hope that each team can raise $2,000 – but it's ok if you raise less – and it’s certainly okay if you raise more!

We all gather at Newtown High School on Saturday July 11th at 7PM and the festivities begin.

The SUPREMELY funny and BRILLIANT creators of the Tony Award-Winning Broadway musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", will lead our Bee:

Rebecca Feldman (the creator of the original show and my co-director on the world premiere production)

Jay Reiss (played the original word pronouncer, Panch, and also wrote additional material – including the zany word definitions – the source of much of the hilarity in the show).
